Romania Classical Tour
DAY 1
Arrival in Bucharest. Departure to Curtea de Arges, a lovely little town, former capital of. Walachia, placed at the foot of the Transylvanian Alps. Accommodation at 2* + Posada Hotel. Visit the Old Princely Court ( XIV sec. frescoes ) and the monastery (one of the most precious treasuries of Romanian medieval art and architecture, where the royal family is buried). Specific Walachian Dinner. .
DAY 2
After breakfast, departure to Sibiu, in south Transylvania. On the way, visit Cozia Monastery ( with Byzantine stilled frescoes ).
Driving through beautiful Olt Valley. Arrival in Sibiu and check in at elegant 3 * Imparatul Romanilor Hotel, situated in the heart of this historical city. Sightseeing Sibiu – probably the most charming among of Transylvanian cities, designated as European Cultural Capital in 2007 for its great architectural heritage and cultural activity. Nice classic dinner.
DAY 3
After breakfast, departure to Cluj. On the way stop in Sibiel to visit the most important glass icon museum in Romania. Visit Alba Iulia, the only Vauban citadel in Transylvania, spiritual capital of the Romanians. Arrival in and sightseeing Cluj - one of the most important cultural centers of Romania, known for its rich historical past. Departure to Baia Mare, the gate to Maramures. Accommodation on the way at 3* Maria motel (this is a family run property - warm atmosphere and great cuisine). Specific Maramuresean dinner.
DAY 4 - Maramures Day
After breakfast, wandering through Maramures – the most interesting site of Romania. Visit famous wooden churches, the unique Happy Cemetery in Sapanta. Opportunity to see people wear traditional costumes, peasants homes inside, peasant art works: carved wooden gates, carpets workshops, water mills ... Arrival in the evening in Borsa, a nice ski resort in the heart of the Carpathian Mountains. Accommodation in 2* Stag Hotel, the best in the area, from where you can take a walk into the marvelous surroundings. Dinner.
DAY 5 - Monasteries Day
After breakfast, departure to Moldavia through Prislop Pass, 1416 m high in the mountains. Plunge into the famous monastic archipelago, with painted monuments included by the UNESCO among the masterpieces of the world art. Visit some of the famous Moldavian monasteries : Moldovita, Sucevita, Voronet (called “The Sistine Chapel of the Orient” ). Stop to shop for some souvenirs in Marginea, the most important black pottery center in the country. Arrival in the evening, in Campulung Moldovenesc and accommodation in 3* Eden Hotel. Bucovinean dinner.
DAY 6
After breakfast, departure back to Transylvania through breathtaking Bicaz Pass. Very scenic driving! Lunch break at "Murder Lake", a mountain resort placed in a picturesque spot. Arrival in the afternoon in Sighisoara - the most beautiful and best preserved inhabited citadel in Europe. Accommodation in heart of the medieval citadel at 3* Sighisoara Hotel. After a little rest, take a walking tour to discover the secrets of the citadel. Medieval dinner in Dracula's House Restaurant.
DAY 7
After breakfast, proceed to Brasov, the favorite tourist destination in Romania. On the way to Brasov visit the famous Bran Castle (best known as Dracula’s Castle, 20 km away from Brasov). Visit Rasnov Fortress, founded in the XIII th century by The Teutonic Knights. Arrival in Brasov and accommodation in 3* Capitol Hotel in the center of the city. Shopping time. Special dinner with folklore spectacle and wine tasting at one of the best restaurants in Brasov..
DAY 8
After breakfast, Brasov city sightseeing. Departure by noon to Sinaia, one of the finest mountain resorts in Europe, with spectacular surroundings and rich history. Lunch break in Sinaia. Visit Peles Castle, former summer residence of the Romanian royal family (built in 1875 and the most beautiful in the S-E of Europe). Driving through beautiful Prahova Valley and Bucegi Mountains. Arrival in Bucharest. Accommodation at 3* Capitol Hotel in the center of the city. Dinner.
DAY 9
Walking tour in Bucharest historical district after breakfast. Visiting the Patriarchal church, the Village Museum or the Art Museum ... On your way, you may pas the enormous Palace of Parliament, a memorial to Ceausecu’s ideals and visions of Communism. Transfer to the airport in the afternoon
